The Ultimate Guide to Help Your Baby Fart and Stop Them Crying

Quickly find out how to help your baby release trapped wind in a few easy steps

It might sound daft but helping your baby to fart can be a game-changer. Newborn babies seem so easy, but all too often around 3-weeks old, they can start crying. And cry more. And it can feel like nothing you can do is helping.

Have you ever been in this situation? Your baby has been up a lot in the night; you’re tired and grumpy yourself. They have fed quite well in the daytime and had various naps. But then the evening stars to draw in and they start to grizzle and get cranky.

You have changed their nappy, they have fresh clothes, they aren’t hot or cold and you have cuddled them and jiggled them for hours. And the crying just gets worse and worse.

And maybe they have a rock hard stomach, clenching their fists. And the cries turn to screams – their face bright red and tears streaming down their face.

You can’t sit down – they won’t be put down – but they also won’t settle in your arms. You can’t cook dinner let alone eat it, you are exhausted and just need a break, but even if you do their cries are like daggers through your heart.

All you want to do is help them but nothing you try works and it just makes you feel like the most rubbish parent on the earth.

And eventually, late into the night, they finally go to sleep. But you know they will only sleep a few hours at best before it all starts again.

Does this resonate?

The good news is you can help!

The good news is that while there are many reasons why babies cry – otherwise known as colic (see my Quick Guide to Colic for more on this) – one of the really big reasons baby cry is trapped wind.

And the great news is that it is really simple to help!

It is possible to relieve their discomfort from trapped wind and see instant results. `your baby can almost instantly go from being grizzly and upset, to being happy and smiling again.

When your baby isn’t suffering they can:

  • feed better
  • nap better
  • sleep better
  • cry less or not at all

And you can find that you have more time to enjoy your baby, play with your baby, and also able to do things like put them down for ten minutes while you have a shower/get dressed/eat a meal.

You can actually get back to living life again and start enjoying parenthood!

The amazing thing with these exercises is that they are very simple to learn, gentle on your baby, can be done by any parent or carer, can be incorporated into your daily routine.

And the best thing of all? Is that when you find the right exercises for your baby, and include them in your routine, you can actually PREVENT the crying from even starting in the first place!

With 10 easy exercises you can wave goodbye to colic and welcome back your happy baby! It really can be quite a miraculous transformation.

"We have had success!

We had fart fireworks followed by a poonami 😂

It’s like having a different child. I do the exercises 3 times a day and it has become more play than urgently needed as she is farting happily in her sleep and going to the toilet more regularly rather than the epic build up we had before.

It has helped her to come on in other ways as she is no longer just thinking about the pain. Grabbing things, giggling, interacting.

I only wish I had found it sooner!!! Thank you"

So what do you need to do to help your baby fart?

We seem to all pass on methods for helping a baby burp and release trapped wind from their stomach.

But you mustn’t forget that air will often move further down the digestive system and turn into trapped farts. But you never hear about how to help your baby fart.

My first baby suffered terribly with bottom wind and despite trying some over-the-counter medicines for colic, it took a great deal of experimentation before we realised how best to help him get that wind out.

Over the years, with feedback from other parents, I incorporated these exercises into my mum & baby yoga classes and developed a comprehensive set of exercises designed specifically to help your baby fart in a gentle yet effective way.

Before you start helping your baby fart

Remember babies are quite delicate creatures so whenever doing any of these techniques be SLOW and GENTLE.

A newborn will not be able to stretch their legs straight so NEVER FORCE YOUR BABY INTO ANY POSITION.

As they get older and get used to the actions then you may find you can help them get more deeply into a pose.

Think of it like a yoga class – you should never do anything that causes strain or discomfort. If in doubt, don’t do it.

Great course.....recommending it to others! Cheers

Exercises to help your baby fart

Each of these movements is done with the baby lying flat on their back on a soft but firm surface.

A bed is too soft, better on a carpeted floor with a few blankets or towels for cushioning.

You can do it with baby clothed or naked (best done without oil) but I would keep the nappy on!

Hold the baby’s ankles gently, and always start by stretching the legs out straight parallel to the floor with feet together, to create a bit of space in the abdomen. Don’t force this bit – newborn babies WILL NOT get their legs straight – just go with however far they will gently go.

Repeat each exercise a few times then try another one. Mix it up a bit. If it is working, you will know because the wind will start blowing!

Material is great! Helped a lot. Different babies can prefer different exercises

After watching the videos and a lot of practice, it really worked. Not particularly speedily, but once we all got used to the exercises, it did work. If only there was a pill. haha 😀 I loved the differences between British and American rhymes ...

John Paul...dad of twins

We found certain exercises helped really well and some did nothing. And for Babyzang #2 it was a completely different set. The philosophy is that by opening and squishing the abdomen and the bowel, then you help the air to come out.

Once we found our set of exercises we would do them every day for about 15 minutes, whether he seemed to need them or not!

If you think your baby is suffering from trapped farts but you aren’t sure, or perhaps you’d like access to the full range of exercise.

Really helped

The Amazing Baby Fart Expulsion Technique Online Class really helped my 6-month-old daughter when she was suffering from wind and gas.

The lessons were easy to follow, the printout was really useful, but most helpful were the little tips like 'This may not help right away, but if you keep doing it every day it will make a difference' - it was true! Thanks so much!
